About the Directors

Camp Wildwood has flourished for over five decades because of three elements, its people, its program and its philosophy. Camp directors Mark and Peter Meyer have owned and operated Camp Wildwood since 1980. They believe in a hands on approach, meeting everyday with their carefully selected administration and staff to discuss program improvements, daily activities, inter-camp games, and remedies for any any of yesterdays problems. We strongly believe that the best way to teach children is to work and learn along with them. That is why we know each and every boy by name. Every night, as we say goodnight to each camper, we learn more about the individual. After all, it is at night when the days activities have ended, that kids have time to talk about their problems, their concerns, and their successes. This personal interest that Mark and Peter show in the boy's growth and maturity brings generation after generation back to Camp Wildwood. In fact, Mark first went to Wildwood as a wild and crazy 10 year old. He returned as a staff member, then became part of the administration, and finally assumed owner/directorship in 1980. What's really cool is there are now former campers who were in Mark's cabin when he was just 20, who are now sending their sons to Wildwood. So when we say generation after generation, we are not kidding!

Mark and Peter Meyer are both family men. Peter's children, Michael and Lisa, are older and have gone successfully through the camping process. Mark's two daughters are currently experiencing their own sleep away camp adventure. Being parents of campers themselves, Mark and Lisa know exactly how you feel, and what you must be thinking because they're going through the same anxieties about sending a child away as you are.

Esther and Lisa serve as our camp mothers. Much like Peter and Mark, they too know all the campers, but their hockey and baseball skills aren't as proficient. Esther with over 30 years of teaching experience, is always available should tutoring our campers on an elementary school level, become necessary. Lisa oversees the arts and crafts program, is a mentor for our female staff, and does a great job at handling some of our homesick and more sensitive campers.
