Parent Notification:
It is our policy to notify parents or guardians in the event that
a camper is taken ill or injured requiring an overnight stay in
the infirmary or a visit to a physician.
Phone Call Policy:
In lieu of the success of last year’s organized call reservation
system we will institute it once again this summer.
You may call Wildwood's Maine number (207-647-8864) to arrange
a date and time to chat with your son based on the following
schedule:
Cedar
Pines and Hemlocks |
Wednesday
June 18th or Thursday June 19th |
| Oaks
and Sycamores |
Friday
June 20th or Saturday June 21st |
| Sequoias,
Maples, and Seniors |
Sunday
June 22nd or Monday June 23rd |
Have times and dates ready when you call. This will save time and
ease the process of logging in everyone’s phone reservations
Calls will begin on Friday, July 3rd, and will take place after
meals in 10 minute increments. Parents will get two calls the first
month and one the second month. Campers with summer birthdays will
get an extra call (please arrange this with our secretaries). Grandparents,
siblings, cousins, etc. will not be permitted to speak with campers
unless they are allotted one of your slots and arranged through
the office.
By calling camp on your designated date and time you will be able
to get right through to your son eagerly awaiting your call. Please
try to have both parents call together, and keep the calls upbeat.
As always, when you need to speak with Mark or Peter, call anytime
and we will return your call as soon as possible.
Mail From Home:
Please try to have a letter waiting for your son upon his
arrival at Wildwood, this is especially important for first time
campers!! Mail can be slow both to and from camp, so please
send that first letter well in advance. Mail is such an important
link to home and the letters can impact strongly on a child. We
ask that you keep the letters frequent and very cheerful, with a
letter arriving perhaps once a day. Please remember prolonged interruption
in the flow of mail may cause your son some anxiety, so please have
them arrive as regularly as possible.

Items Not Permitted at
Wildwood:
Absolutely no knives, fireworks (including sparklers), lighters
or matches, electric blankets, heaters, large fans, or televisions
large or small. Absolutely no cell phones, laptops or
digital cameras.!!!!
Lots of questions being are being asked about IPOD's and PSP players.
The camp policy on these items is as follows: ALL DIGITAL
ELECTRONICS that are brought to camp are limited to BUNK use only.
That being said, Wildwood will not be held responsible if any of
these expensive electronic devices are lost, broken
or damaged. Our strong advice to you is to LEAVE the expensive ones
AT HOME!!!!
| Camper
Email: Parents and relatives may e-mail the
campers as well as sending the old fashioned stamped mail. We
will send a separate instruction sheet with restrictions and
passwords necessary for sending campers e-mail. During the summer
our secretaries have instructions to give these passwords only
to callers who know the birth date of the camper they are trying
to e-mail. All other callers will be directed to one of the
directors. |
Travel Itinerary:
Please let us know where we can get a hold of you at all times.
This includes weekend vacations, business trips, etc. Before you
depart be sure to fill out and submit to us a Parent
Itinerary Form on the home page of our web site. In the event
of an emergency, and we are unable to reach you, we will use the
numbers that you have provided for us on your son’s medical
form.
What to Mark and Label:
Please be sure that all clothing, and sports equipment is clearly
labeled with your son’s first and last name. In years past,
parents have diligently labeled clothes but forgot to label such
items as: baseball caps, baseball gloves, hockey sticks, hockey
and lacrosse gloves, helmets, tennis racquets and covers, walkmen,
radios, Game Boys and cartridges, books and magazines, rainwear,
all shoes and sneakers. IN OTHER WORDS, DON'T FORGET TO MARK AND
LABEL EVERYTHING.
Contact Lenses and Glasses:
Please make sure to send an extra pair of glasses and do not forget
to write your son’s eyeglass prescription on the medical form.
Visiting Day and Four Week Campers:
Parent’s visiting days are scheduled for either Friday,
July 25th or Saturday, July 26th from 9:00AM to 4:30PM.
Please notify the office in Maine after July 1st, which day you
plan on attending, so that our food and scheduling arrangements
will be accurate. Grandparents and siblings are welcome to spend
the day at Camp Wildwood as well. New parents enrolled in Wildwood’s
four week program, will need to make a decision about staying or
leaving after two or three weeks. If
the plan is to leave, we will have your son ready and packed on
Sunday July 27th.
Important Reminders:
Each boy needs a good supply of the following items: two flashlights
with spare bulbs, soap, shampoo, two toothbrushes, toothpaste, nail
clippers, combs and brushes. Stationary wise, plenty of pencils
and pens, stamps, and especially for our little guys, a generous
supply of stamped self-addressed envelopes. Roller blades can be
brought onto the bus. During the past few summers, tie-dying while
at arts and crafts has come back in vogue, therefore perhaps a plain
white tee shirt can be brought for this activity.
Probably the item that the campers use the most and run out of
most often, are batteries. Batteries are used to power flashlights,
walkmen and radios, Game-Boys etc., pretty much all the things they
use in their cabins. Instead of buying lots of batteries, we recommend
that you purchase rechargeable batteries and the chargers needed
to keep them fully powered. Make sure you get various sizes of batteries
and a charger that can accommodate all the different battery sizes.
We want to assure you how deeply we appreciate the trust and confidence
you have placed in us. We shall do everything within our power to
care for your son and to see that he has a healthy and happy summer
experience. In order to meet that responsibility, we must have your
full and unhesitating cooperation in abiding to Camp Wlldwood's
common sense policies. We know we can count on you
We are looking forward to a joyous 2008 camping season, and would
like to take this time, to wish each and every one of you, a wonderful
summer as well.
