Package Policy

Dear Parents,

In the past, Wildwood experienced a real Care Package problem. Wildwood used to receive 90 packages on more then 20 days per summer. These packages had to be opened, and quite often candy, cookies, gum, etc. had to be confiscated as is our policy. Although we were complying with the rules we sent to you, we were perceived as the “bad guys” and had some unhappy campers to deal with the rest of the day.

To correct this problem, we instituted a system which helped to overcome the deluge of packages of past summers. Only ONCE during the summer will you be able to send your son a care package with his favorite goodies in it. This care package must be no bigger than a “normal” size shoebox, and it must be addressed with a specific Camp Wildwood address label. We will supply you with this label at a later time. Remember, packages will be limited to one per summer. If a package comes into camp without our label, it will be returned!

PLEASE ADVISE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES THAT WITHOUT THE LABEL,
PACKAGES WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER!

If your son has a birthday during camp, you may send one birthday package in addition to the one package per session. Please address the package to Mark or Peter in c/o your son and put “Birthday Package” on the box.

Magazines, baseball cards, books, etc. will not be considered packages, as long as they can fit comfortably into a 9 x 12 manila envelope. If you need to send an “emergency” package such as: glasses, sneakers, sporting goods, similar to the birthday box, please address them to Mark or Peter in c/o your son and we personally will make sure they get to him.

As always, we try and create a healthy and fair environment with one that does not promote unhealthy competition. We ask that you try not to circumvent the rules by sending boxes to the staff with food for your son.

Finally, please explain this policy to your son so he will understand our package rules and thus prevent any misunderstanding at camp. Reminders of this policy will be included in all bulletins, and look for the labels to be mailed at a later date.
