Battle for the Cup

Camp wildwood is home to a number of long standing traditions. THe most sacred of them all is the annual battle for the BLUE/Gray Cup! These four days of intense competition bring out the best in a Camp Wildwood Boy.

What started as the Tribal Games in the 1950s has evolved into the premier event of the summer at Camp Wildwood. The teams are always Blue and Gray, but the themes change with each summer. Recent match ups have included Avengers vs. Justice League, Nike vs. Under Armour and FBI vs. CIA.

It all starts with a big “BREAK” where the theme and the teams are revealed. One summer, while the boys were at the movie theater in town, Louis surprised everyone by busting through the stage door and announcing the beginning of Color War. Helicopters, Seaplanes, a Jousting Tournament, you name it! Color War could break at any moment and in any way imaginable.

New teams are created each summer and boys compete in a number of events. The teams are led by boys from our oldest group. We call them the “Generals” and they earn that role after a full camp vote. Event highlights include Rope Burn, Track & Swim, Tug o’ War and the annual Song & Cheer Competition.

There is something about Color War that brings out the very best in a Camp Wildwood boy. The focus, passion and determination they show on a yearly basis is what makes it the best four days of the summer!
